How did all this start?
I wrote a pilot that heavily featured pigeons. I was trying to capture a "pigeon tornado" for my proof of concept for the pilot. That led to feeding them. Then I learned how to de-string them. Now there are 2 rescue pigeons in the apartment.
What are you doing with pigeons?
I feed and de-string pigeons in New York City. Pigeons are abandoned domesticated animals, much like dogs or cats. They often succumb to disease and death due to improper diets that don't allow them the strength to fight off viruses, infections, lead poisoning, etc. A well-balanced diet helps keep them and their immune systems strong.
What can I feed pigeons?
Pigeons thrive on a balanced diet. Bread is not actually good for pigeons and can cause infections in their crop. See below for more information.
What is de-stringing?
Pigeons often get hair, string, or thread wrapped around their toes and feet, which can lead to amputation, serious infection, and death. We catch them, gently and briefly.
